Here’s a preview of what to expect:
I suppose it’s a free of charge event.
Looks like it. I just read about it this morning. I didn’t even know New York still existed.
Yeah it’s free! Bring your friends or whoever might be interested. Seating is limited to 150 persons, however, so you might want to arrive a bit early.
Well… I live 10,000km from there, so, my question is on behalf of people that live nearby! 🙂
Too far for me to travel as well. But look for audio of the event to be posted on the Platypus site.
One thing that irked me it is that the text says:
‘The need for a Marxist politics adequate to the crisis is as great as such a politics is lacking.’
While the title says:
‘Radical Interpretations of the Present Crisis’
I don’t know who wrote that text, but it’s certainly someone that is not really a Marxist. It’s not marxism that is radical, the other theories which are vulgar and thus wrong.
Calling Marxism a radical theory is part of the game of the vulgar economists in switching causes and consequences and this is a point which Marx highlighted throughout the whole Capital.
“To be radical is to grasp the root of the matter.” – Marx, A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right
I love Lukacs’ quotation of that line, which then continues to quote Marx’s statement: “For man, however, that root is man.”
From the Latin radix, for “root” (the English word “radish” also derives from this).
I guess I had too much of the wrong meaning of the word, like being a rebel.
I would go, if I had a means to get up there.
>$30 🙂

Wow, this debate will be amazing. Too bad I live in god forsaken Europe. If Harvey doesnt prepare himself well this debate will be unidirectional. I don’t think that he knows about TSSI.
As another person on the wrong side of the atlantic (London) I am really hoping the talk gets videoed and posted….
